• Racist Milwaukee Cops accused in beating plead not guilty
  

Three police officers accused of beating a man they thought had stolen a badge and wallet during an off-duty party pleaded not guilty to felony charges Wednesday after a court commissioner found there was enough evidence for them to stand trial. Frank L. Jude Jr., of Appleton, took the witness stand and for the first time formally faced the men charged with battering him while he lay face down in the street outside the house where off-duty officers were partying during the early morning hours of Oct. 24. Jude, 26, testified he could not identify the men who delivered the blows that left him with a fractured nose and other injuries. All three defendants, Jon Bartlett, Daniel Masarik and Andrew Spengler, are charged with party to substantial battery. Bartlett and Masarik also are charged with party to second-degree recklessly endangering safety. Masarik faces a third count of perjury. The only other witness at the preliminary hearing, Officer Joseph Schabel, testified he saw all three off-duty officers punch or kick Jude after Schabel and his partner responded to the scene. "Officer Bartlett came in and kicked Jude in the face," Schabel said, adding he heard a "popping and cracking" sound. Schabel said he ordered Bartlett to step back. Spengler "punched him twice in the face," and Masarik kicked Jude in the head, the officer testified. Commissioner Barry Phillips found probable cause to support the charges and set a scheduling hearing for early April.  [more]

This incident highlights and underscores the stupidity and cowardice that permeates law enforcement agencies throughout our nation. A grand illustration of the police's lack of courage to police themselves while earning hero badges for policing the general public.

It is horrible to see those pictures. You don't treat animals like that much less a human. Yea they wear their badges and take advantage of other citizens. Their ego is so big with the badge, and they should be tried so they can see how big their ego will be in prison. All these abusive cops have issues and should not be on the force. They lie also when writing tickets thru their teeth, but what goes round comes round. The bad cops always lie and make the good cops that protect the citizens look bad. Get rid of the bad apples--lock and put them away--and see how their shit will fly in the ceiling

Monster was very strong, benching over 400 Lbs, seems to me he would be able to defend himself. Also with 10 people Supposedly beating him, how do we know the correct 3 are on trial? Plus drinking was involved which further complicates the matter, seems to me we will never know the true story.

It is a shame to cry racism when Jude is more white than anything else. It is demeaning to blacks to whine about police brutality then get racism to project a further cause. The cops were animals - pure and simple.

There is NO EXCUSE for their actions. I beleive the cops should have charged with hate crimes. The prison would have had a real nice time with them. When the guys in prison find out about this they will get what they deserve. Maybe the cops will be beaten like they beat Frank Jude.

As a white woman, I do take offense to this being called a 'racial incident'. Jude is a human being and deserves to be treated as such. This was purely a crime of a bunch of 'a$$holes' being 'a$$holes with a badge'. In my heart, I believe all three are GUILTY. I've watched the trial and I have NO DOUBT.

If they're found 'innocent', the jurors have not done their job. I HOPE Mr. Jude sues the living hell out of the city of Milwaukee in a Civil Suit.

I'd like to kick each of those three cops in the nuts. Shame someone didn't have a camera phone on them!

ive been watching the case on courttv because i ve been layed off 4 months, a white man got my job, but back to topic, 15 drunk cops and two colored guys come in with two fly white women and the police are mad for that in and of itself, 2nd they are all drunk, call it what you want but they were. dumb ass leaves his wallet and badge out in the open, accuses the only colored people of stealing it, racism, period, lovell harris judes friend was black, jude was mullatto, he has light skin and str8 hair but facial features indicate he is obviously not white. this is racism if i ever saw it, somethings gotta give, this time they need to make an example out of these guys to let cops know they arent above the law
