• Racist Milwaukee Cops accused in beating plead not guilty
  

Three police officers accused of beating a man they thought had stolen a badge and wallet during an off-duty party pleaded not guilty to felony charges Wednesday after a court commissioner found there was enough evidence for them to stand trial. Frank L. Jude Jr., of Appleton, took the witness stand and for the first time formally faced the men charged with battering him while he lay face down in the street outside the house where off-duty officers were partying during the early morning hours of Oct. 24. Jude, 26, testified he could not identify the men who delivered the blows that left him with a fractured nose and other injuries. All three defendants, Jon Bartlett, Daniel Masarik and Andrew Spengler, are charged with party to substantial battery. Bartlett and Masarik also are charged with party to second-degree recklessly endangering safety. Masarik faces a third count of perjury. The only other witness at the preliminary hearing, Officer Joseph Schabel, testified he saw all three off-duty officers punch or kick Jude after Schabel and his partner responded to the scene. "Officer Bartlett came in and kicked Jude in the face," Schabel said, adding he heard a "popping and cracking" sound. Schabel said he ordered Bartlett to step back. Spengler "punched him twice in the face," and Masarik kicked Jude in the head, the officer testified. Commissioner Barry Phillips found probable cause to support the charges and set a scheduling hearing for early April.  [more]

Well First of all Mullato,Brown Skinned Light ,skinned Carmel its all the same BLACK!So i dont know what all the fuss is over Jude being black because he is! Does'nt matter if he's half white or light skinned he is a BLACK MAN! No matter if his hair is straight he is still black.and as long as the cops can look at his face they can see a black man in his face. so they will beat him just like any other Black man!

I don't understand how anyone can say tha tthis was not a 'racially motivated' hate crime. These cops certianly didn't beat the man because they thought he was white. There were quite a few witnesses who testified that they hereard some of the officers refer to Mr. Jude as the 'N' word. So they appaertly understood that he at least was part black. In the old days of racism, if a person had one drop of black blood in him he was considered a 'N@#$er.

I was so disheartened when I learned that those 3 cops were found not guilty. There were a lot of things wrong with this case. It took 4 months to file charges against the cops. Police fled the scene and changed their clothes, which could have contained blood evidence. Poor Jude getting a pen jabbed in his ear. No one deserves that and I can't believe that no one was charged with that gruesome crime. It truly breaks my heart that Milwaukee is still living in the 1800's. Drunk white cops beat up 2 black men who arrived at a party with 2 white females. America has not changed much since the days of slavery. Black people we got the shitty end of the stick.

The feds are coming in to investigate this one. The prosecuter in this case screwed up by not charging all the cops whosw names were involved. IF he had of done that, some of the officers would have been more cooperative. That also would have meant that they would have had top tell on themselves, which is probably one of the reasons why they didn't tell. I do not have a beef with Nan Haggerty. Considering that she was elected into office with a messa that Arthur Jones negated to clean up before his departure from office, I can honestly say that she is doing the best that she can in a terrible situtation. She reprimanded all of the officers involved and it will be interesting to see how the feds will handle this case.

Any one who says that this crime wasn't racially motivated is very very wrong. Frank Jude Jr. and his friend Lovell Harris were the only black men at the party of 35-40 people. When the police officer noticed his badge and wallet were missing, his first thought was "the black men took it" and he never considerd any other person. The said thing is Lovell Harris was slashed in the face with a knife by another off duty officer. Harris is in jail now.....for suspected theft.....but the wallet and badge were never found.

jude is in jail for a previous charge, harris is in jail for the mysterious badge, in any case, that whole city dead wrong for letting that go on like that,I cant believe its 2006 and this crap still goes on. especially as a black man, somethings got to give man
