Almost Half Of Households Earn Less Than $15,000
A new report has found three-quarters of the city's Latino babies are born into poverty, NewsChannel 4 reported on Thursday. According to the Citizen's Committee for Children of New York study, Hispanic households have the lowest median income of any group in the five boroughs. Hunts Point in the Bronx is at the top of the risky neighborhood list for children. Almost half of the households earn less than $15,000 a year and depend on emergency food programs to survive. The report finds the city is doing a much better job when it comes to signing up children for health insurance, as well as providing services like immunizations and prenatal care. [more]
