Black fathers who don't live with their children have
stronger ties to their children than their white counterparts, new Iowa
State University research shows. The truth is, though, that unmarried
black fathers who don't have custody of their children tend to live
close by, help with homework and know their children's friends,
according to a study by Susan Stewart, an ISU sociologist. They also
are more likely than unmarried, noncustodial white fathers to visit
their children or have them stay overnight, she says. [more]
