As Storm Approaches New Orleans the GOP Prays Public Forgets how it Turned its Back on Katrina Victims

The writer of this WSJ story is probably white, votes for the white party robotically, rich and could really care less about anyones plans to fix the economy. The economy is an issue now that there is a Black president - the writer probably supported the Bush plans to ignore Katrina and the economy.  From [HERE] and [HERE] Republicans cancelled the first day of their nominating convention due to Tropical Storm Isaac, and now the storm is heading toward the Louisiana and Mississippi coasts and could be a Category 1 hurricane when it arrives. This is giving every reporter with a microphone a chance to remind the world of Hurricane Katrina's destruction nearly seven years ago to the day and what that did to the second term of the last Republican President.

We hope Republicans don't let this interfere with their serious business of nominating Mitt Romney. Conventions lack the drama they once did and a four-day affair is undoubtedly too long. But Mr. Romney is one of the two men who will serve as President for the next four years, and he deserves a national platform to tell America who he is and how he would govern.

For all the cynicism about politics, Americans understand this election is more important than most and they want to hear the parties make their case. The "major" TV networks are only covering the conventions for an hour a night, so they ought to be able do that and cover a hurricane without resorting to split-screen theatrics. Or maybe we're not cynical enough. (oh, the storm is the made up circus drama and the convention is reality, white power! -bw)

As it happens, the Governors of the Gulf states are all Republicans, and they've either delayed or cancelled their appearances in Tampa to oversee evacuations and crisis management. They're doing their jobs, and the job of the GOP delegates is to nominate a man they hope will be the next President.
