President Mohammad Khatami [more] said here on
Sunday that U.S. President George W. Bush and Al-Qaeda terrorist
network leader Osama bin Laden use very similar language.“The words and
deeds of Bush and Bin Laden are alike, producing the sound of violence
and waging war against the world. In fact, the words used by Bush and
Bin Laden are almost exactly the same,” Khatami said during a meeting
with a group of Kermanshah Province academics. Referring to the U.S.
animosity toward Iran over the past 26 years, the president noted that
Washington supports the most Neanderthal governments in the world for
the sake of its own interests, adding, “So how can it establish
democracy and freedom in a country like Iran?” It is foolish for the
enemies of the Islamic Republic to place hope in a country like the
United States, which intends to devour the world and establish puppet
regimes, he said. Elsewhere in his remarks, the president stated that
the Iranian nation chose an Islamic republic and insists upon this
system. The legitimacy of the government is based on the people’s will,
and no one has the right to impose his/her desired government on the
people, even if it is just, he added. [more]
