Black Man Brutally Beaten by Eunice Police Settles Case for $35,000
A Eunice man who filed a lawsuit alleging police brutality has settled out of court. Eunice police officers arrested Donald Laday last year on charges of disturbing the peace at his high school reunion. Laday claimed he was roughed up by Eunice police after his arrest, and filed a lawsuit against Police Chief Gary Fontenot and four other officers. State police and the F.B.I. stepped in to investigate, and TV 10 has learned that Laday has accepted an offer to settle the suit for $35,000. He says, Police Chief Gary Fontenot is trying to cover up the beating. Lucy Reed is 47-yr-old Donald Laday's sister, she claims police beat her brother up after he was taken into custody leaving a number of bruises on his face. Reed wants the officers to face charges.Guillory say "I want justice to be served because I don't care what my brother did in the past. How can you beat somone down like an animal, thats not right."
