In temperate sunshine fanned by a balmy breeze, more than 1 million
people turned out yesterday to celebrate Caribbean culture in a display
of fantasy costumes, throbbing music and ethnic food. It was the 37th
year of the West Indian American Carnival and Parade, which took place
along Eastern Parkway in Brooklyn's Crown Heights section and spilled
over into side streets where many enjoyed private barbecues. [more ]
