State says Maysville Police acted appropriately

The Maysville police officers accused of using excessive force while making an arrest earlier this month acted appropriately according to a report by the State Bureau of Investigation, District Attorney Dewey Hudson said Thursday. Hudson's announcement, which came during a press conference in Jacksonville, doesn't automatically guarantee that the four Maysville police officers, who were suspended without pay at a Maysville town board meeting Oct. 7, will get their jobs back. The board that voted 3-2 to suspend them until the SBI looked into the matter will need to vote to reinstate them. But Maysville Mayor James Harper, who also spoke at the press conference, said the board unanimously agreed to bring the officers back if the SBI determined they acted appropriately. Maysville officials asked the SBI to look into the Oct. 1 incident in which two Maysville police officers on patrol were allegedly assaulted by four men. [more ]
