Marion Barry expects a busy first month when he rejoins the D.C.
Council. The city's former mayor won Tuesday's Democratic primary in
Ward 8, defeating incumbent Sandy Allen. Barry is all but assured a
victory in November in the predominantly black, working-class district.
Barry says he plans to introduce ten bills in his first 30 days -
including legislation that would guarantee a summer job to everyone in
the city between the ages of 14 and 21. He also plans to push for
better homes and health care. The man once dubbed "Mayor For Life" has

affairs. His victory has some people concerned about what it could mean
for home rule. [more ]
