The 2004 Felon Voter List has come
under attack recently because Hispanics disproportionately made up 0%
of the list. Latinos in Florida tend to vote republican. While African
Americans in Florida, who tend to vote Democrat, proportionately made up nearly
50% of the felon list. Now Contrapositive.blogspot.com reports that according to
Guy Stuart, a professor of
public policy at Harvard's Kennedy School of
Government, Hispanics were also substantially under-represented in 2000
Florida Felon Purge List:
only 4% of the names on the list were Hispanic in a state where Hispanics
make up 11% of registered voters. . So what's going on? Were large numbers of
Hispanics omitted from the 2000 list? Or, to put it more sharply: Is it
possible that it took the illegal votes of Hispanic felons to put Bush
over the top in 2000 in Florida? [more]
