Three U.S. soldiers were killed in separate incidents in Iraq, and
another three more wounded in a bomb attack northwest of Baghdad, the
U.S. military said. One soldier died in the bomb attack that took place
at 4:45 p.m. Iraq time yesterday, a U.S. military spokesman said by
telephone from Baghdad. An Iraqi civilian was also hurt in the blast.
The spokesman wouldn't say where the attack happened or give details of
the incident. The other two soldiers died of their wounds after
separate incidents yesterday in Iraq's Anbar province, northwest of
Baghdad, the military said in a statement received by e-mail. It didn't
give any more details. More than 673 U.S. soldiers have died in action
in Iraq since the U.S.-led invasion in March last year, almost 85
percent of them since President George W. Bush declared an end to
``major combat'' operations on May 1, 2003, according to a U.S.
Department of Defense Web site. [more]
