BUSH and AIDS: Talk Is Cheap
President Bush reiterated his commitment to fighting AIDS yesterday, but once again the president was long on rhetoric and short on action. Rather than responding forcefully to what he called " a great tragedy ," Bush gave no sign he would depart from a " go it alone approach " that has led him to underfund his own initiative, cut support to international aid groups fighting the disease, rely heavily on unproven abstinence-training, and obstruct access to the cheapest AIDS medication.
