My husband and I train dogs (mainly German Shepherds) for personal protection and dog sport. I can tell you that by and large, police K9s are very poorly trained dogs. They might be good when the force first gets them; but then their training goes to shit. Their dogs almost NEVER "out" (release the target); they have to be choked or pulled off. Their obedience is almost non-existent (because that takes regular training and WORK), and worst of all, they encourage what's called a "type-writer" or "punishing" bite (which causes a LOT of tissue damage), when a proper bite is to hold and latch.

We haven't found one single officer yet that we would allow to train on our place.
