Officer identified in Death of Justin Thompson: Memphis Police Refuse to Release Details in Shooting of 15 Yr old Boy

From [HERE] and [HERE] and [HERE] The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has released the identity of a Memphis Police officer who reportedly shot and killed 15 year old Justin Thompson on Monday night. The TBI says 28-year-old Terrance Shaw is on paid leave while it investigates the shooting

Police Director Toney Armstrong asked the TBI to take over the investigation since an officer was involved, and all they’ve released is one statement saying Officer Terrance Shaw was at the scene when Thompson was shot.  The Mayor`s office says Shaw was the apparent victim of a robbery and the TBI is looking over evidence to see if the two knew each other or had ever talked before.  Other than that we know nothing about the crime. 

Apparently Thompson was chased and shot to death by Officer Shaw. Police have refused to provide details of the shooting to the public. A neighbor said that before the boy collapsed in her yard he stopped running and asked her to call an ambulance for help because he had been shot. Witnesses said they saw Justin get into a black car minutes before they heard the gunshots. They said Justin was running through their yards telling them to call an ambulance.

His mother, Shirley, said Justin left to walk to the store with his two brothers, however his brothers returned and he did not. She said minutes later, she could see police lights outside of her home.

“He said your baby been shot, your baby has been shot,” said Shirley about a neighbor who told her the news.

Mayor Wharton says he is unhappy with the information he is able to release because of police department policy.

“I can`t say anything, I can`t say anything, I can`t say anything,” said Wharton.

Shaw said Montgomery tried to run him over, so he shot him.

With no new facts about the shooting available as the TBI investigates, speculation also has been fed about Shaw, a 28-year-old officer assigned to the police training academy and a 2007 graduate from University of Tennessee-Martin with a bachelor's degree in education. He joined the police department as a recruit in October 2007.

While on duty with a partner on Valentine's Day in 2009, Shaw fatally shot Courtney McGowan, 25, who police reported struck Shaw and his partner with a car they were investigating in the Raleigh Area. He also shot a pit bull in November 2008 on Northgate and another dog in July 2011 on Winterpark in uses of deadly force that were ruled justified.

Glenda Graham, a best friend of Justin's mother, introduced speakers and concluded the program people asking people to donate to a funeral fund at Regions bank.

Shirley Thompson, with reporters gathered around after the vigil, said she believes her son was innocent. "I want the truth," she said.
