New autopsy rules out natural causes in death
The Hillsborough County medical examiner has ruled out sickle cell trait and other natural causes in the death of a teenager beaten at a North Florida boot camp, a spokeswoman for State Attorney Mark Ober said Tuesday. Dr. Vernard Adams headed a team of five pathologists Monday during a 12-hour, second autopsy of Martin Lee Anderson. Bay County Medical Examiner Charles F. Siebert Jr. ruled in February that the 14-year-old died not from the beating but from internal bleeding caused by sickle cell trait, a rare medical complication. Siebert observed Monday's autopsy in Tampa.Martin's parents disputed Siebert's report from the beginning.  "I'm just glad that the truth finally came out," said the teen's mother, Gina Jones, who called for the arrest of those involved in the beating, which was captured on a security camera videotape. Gov. Jeb Bush appointed Ober at the request of the Panama City prosecutor. The teen's body was exhumed Friday and transported to Tampa as part of Ober's investigation. " Ober has said that it will take months to complete his investigation, but Baden already has drawn his own conclusion. "My opinion is, he died because of what you see in the videotape," said Baden, calling the youth "almost a rag doll" as guards beat him. "Even if correction officers do the wrong thing, it's very difficult to get past a grand jury, or any jury, when somebody does bad things while on duty." HATER of Blacks Gov. Jeb Bush does not believe a shutdown of boot camps is necessary
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner is performing one of the new autopsies and the family is hiring noted pathologist Dr. Michael Baden to handle the other. They're hoping for different results. "The medical community around the world has said the sickle cell trait alone will not kill you," attorney Benjamin Crump said. "It could be a factor, but it certainly wouldn't kill you. It wouldn't explain the internal bleeding or any of those things." The family is calling for a complete shutdown of every boot camp in the state, however, Governor Jeb Bush calls that excessive. "I think it is inappropriate to govern at the margins to create an entire policy based on a tragic event," Bush said. "I think it is more than appropriate to review procedures that dictate or that govern how these facilities are run." My concern as a human being but especially as an African-American is why does it appear to be black youth who always "accidentally die" while incarcerated? Why is this population always subject to physical punishment and abuse? A more burning question is why does it appear that the lives of our black youth have no value and can be taken away at whim just because?

This child's death is so heart-breaking! No child, (black, white, latino, etc.) should be subjected to this kind of torture. I am a white lady that lives in the area where this crime against Martin Anderson occured and many people (of all races) are outraged at this young man's death. We now know that 5 youths (3 black and 2 white) have died while in custody within this Florida system. FIVE CHILDREN TOO MANY! To Martin's family, I am so sorry for what you are going through and I am glad that the truth has finally come out about your beautiful son's death. WE ALL KNEW HOW THIS BEAUTIFUL SOUL DIED, AS IT IS PRETTY EVIDENT WHEN YOU SEE THE VIDEO! I am a white lady with a 12 year old son and 10 year old daughter, and I am appalled that this kind of racist behavior can still exist in this day and age. THESE GUARDS AND THE NURSE SHOULD ALL BE CHARGED WITH THIS YOUNG MAN'S DEATH! I just wanted to let you know that not all white people behave this way, some of us are not racists, and some of us do not condone this kind of behavior. Ultimately what is most important here is that a child died--it should not matter what the color of his skin was--the death of any child in this manner should be given the same amount of attention and concern, whether the child is black, white, latino, asian, japanese etc. The nurse and guards should be charged with Martin's death and receive the stiffest penalties under the law. They should not be shown any mercy!!!!! I truly believe that what comes around goes around, and these murderers of a child will receive their just deserves. First, I would like you to accept my condolences. For my own experiences, the grief is overwhelming and it will increase with the time. The death of a son is an insurmountable loss. My name is Beatriz Luis-Garcia and 25 months ago my son Leonardo Barquin was assassinated by a policeman in Miami. His name is Jorge Espinosa and at the time of the incident, he had a record of police brutality. More than two years later, the case is still in the Attorney Office. This killer shouted my son three times in the back, then handcuff and beat him. Even when my son was a minor child, they didn’t call me; consequently he died ALONE 6 hours later in the hospital. After this horrible murder, many more persons had been killed by the police. Let me tell you that the police are well-connected with the mafia; they have power and the right to use gums. We, as mothers, need to fight together to change the law that allow a police to comeback to the streets after an assassination, they must be automatically suspended. This pain can not be compare with anything, literally the HEART HURT. These criminals must go before the judge and pay for what they did it. We need to be together, we need to be strong to encourage the law. Receive a big hug of a mother that as you is in pain.
