Family of Latino Man Beaten by NYC Cops Wins Suit - $1.5 Million
The family of a Bronx man whose leg was broken by cops was awarded $1.5
million in damages from the city after a jury ruled his injuries were
caused by excessive force. Luis Jimenez, 53, was wrestled to the ground
by two cops inside a Bronx police stationhouse on Oct. 17, 1992, after
he slugged a cop in the face, according to court papers. Jimenez sued
the city, the NYPD and the two cops who he argued used excessive force
to subdue him. Two years after the incident he died, but his family
continued to pursue the lawsuit. [more]
