- Internal probe of beating on hold [more]
For the first time, an eyewitness has
described what happened the night several off-duty Milwaukee police
officers allegedly beat a man in October. Frank Jude was allegedly
beaten by a group of off-duty Milwaukee police officers. "I'm glad that
the damages he has now, luckily, are a lot better than what I thought
they were going to be," the victim's friend, Kirsten Antonissen said.
Antonissen placed a 911 call last October outside a house party in Bay
View. "There's got to be at least 10 ... They're kicking him too ...
They're beating the hell out of him. Oh my God," Antonissen said. Four
officers, Jon Bartlett, Andrew Spengler, Ryan Packard and Daniel
Masarik, have not been charged with a crime, but are suspended.
Antonissen and her friend, Katie Brown, said there were more than four
off-duty officers involved that night. "I guess my main reason for
speaking out is to try to convince somebody who knew and was there can
finally come forward and start talking," Antonissen said. Jude was out
for the night with the women. Afterward, the three, along with Lovell
Harris, went to a party hosted by an officer. Later, they went out to
sit in Antonissen's truck. That's when, the women said, an officer
dragged Jude out and accused him of stealing a badge and allegedly
started beating him. Harris, who said he was also assaulted, believes
the incident was racially motivated. "These guys are supposed to serve
and protect the law, and they broke the law. So I don't trust the
police," Harris said. [more] and[more]
