10,000 Protest Police Killing of Kenneth Walker
Walker and three of his friends were heading for a local restaurant on the night of Dec. 10, 2003, when sheriff's deputies pulled them over on busy Interstate 185. Police said they were acting on a tip that heavily-armed Miami drug dealers were making a delivery in Columbus that night and were driving an SUV. The three surviving men say they were physically pulled out of their Yukon, thrown on the ground with guns pointed at their heads and not allowed to ask any questions. The videotape shows all four men prone on the ground, with no sign of resistance. Suddenly two shots ring out. Officers then mill around Walker and leave him unattended for two minutes before anyone attempts first aid. There were no weapons or drugs found in the car or on Walker or his friends. Glisson first claimed that he tripped as he put his knee in Walker's back and the barrel of his semi-automatic machine gun to the back of his head. Later he said that he fired "instinctively" when he thought Walker's hand moved toward his pocket. [more] and [more]
