DC Metro Police Accost Pregnant Black Woman Over Loud Cell Phone Call

Sakinah Aaron was walking into the bus area at the Wheaton Metro station several weeks ago, talking loudly on her Motorola cell phone. A little too loudly for Officer George Saoutis of the Metro Transit Police. The police officer told Aaron, who is five months pregnant, to lower her voice. She told the officer he had no right to tell her how to speak into her cell phone. Their verbal dispute quickly escalated, and Saoutis grabbed Aaron by the arm and pushed her to the ground. He handcuffed the 23-year-old woman, called for backup and took her to a cell where she was held for three hours before being released to her aunt. She was charged with two misdemeanors: "disorderly manner that disturbed the public peace" and resisting arrest. [more ]

You say it all in your article! Break it down piece by piece.Haven't we all been annoyed at one time or another by that person who talks just a little to loud on their phone in public.Ask yourself where doe's your personal right to free speech start to infringe on other peoples right not be annoyed. In this case Mrs. Aron made all of the choices, she opted to ride the Metro; she could have driven herself and talked as loud as she wanted in her own vehicle or taken a cab and only annoyed one person-the cab driver. But she chose to ride a public conveince which has a set of rules which all riders must follow to provide an injoyable, safe ride.Mrs. Aron should have listened to the officer and lowered her tone of voice, but she didn't! We don't know why she didn't, maybee she was having a bad day. However, Mrs. Aron is an adult and adults must conform to societies rules which govern decent behavior. Mrs Aron chose not to listen to the officer and disobeyed his order on Metro property which is not concidered public property for thoes who didn't know. Mrs Aron could have exited metro property and screamed at the top of her lungs on public space, but she didn't. She made the choice to contine the behavior and then caused the officer to act to stop the conduct. She was wrestled to the ground because she was not complying with the law. She chose to resist the officer when she was pregnant. In my opion she should be charged with child abuse because she chose to put her unborn child in harms way. Mrs. Aron was given three seperate chances to remedy her conduct which she failed to do.....I'm not a big fan of the police in the D.C. area butt we can't blame this one on them. One final note to Mrs. Aron " you can take the girl out of the getto but you can't take the getto out of the girl"

you must be a transit cop. i was suppose to take the exam for transit but i'm changing my mind. i diagree with the police and you. transit arrest 12 year olds for eating fries and women for eating a freaking payday. i wanted the job but i don't want to work for the worst police force in the nation. solve some real crimes for once. maybe the transit police should count all the crimes that happen on transit property. i hate loud phone talkers too but come the hell on. and what the hell does ghetto have to do with this. you must be ghetto. you can't even spell right.
