SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) -- The number of African Americans in San Francisco jail is growing steadily while the number of black residents in the city is shrinking, according to Sheriff Michael Hennessey. Hennessey said he is worried about the trend. More than 60 percent of his inmates are African American, he said. The number among women inmates only is 67 percent. About 42 percent of the jail population is in custody on drug charges, he said. Meanwhile, only 6.7 percent of the residents in the city are black. [MORE]
