Reading Saturday's Voice of the People section was very disturbing. All these proud Americans voicing their anger with Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr. and hatred for Barack Obama.

What's next? Shall we storm the church with torches?

Why this anger? Especially at Easter, these cries for Obama's head seem so familiar. A man is being flogged publicly for words he never said, for things he has not done, and his words of peace and unity are twisted into words of racism.

I don't see how some of these intelligent writers took evil and hatred from that speech on March 18. I heard unity and peace, understanding and wisdom.

So Obama attended church there for 20 years. He surely wasn't there that much since he worked in Springfield and then in Washington.

But why should anyone be expected to defend, or condemn, every word out of someone else's mouth? Are we all now to be held accountable for our spouse's foolish behavior and words? Must we divorce ourselves from everyone with whom we disagree, always, without fail? Then surely all good Catholics must leave their church because of the sins of the sex-abusing priests, and all those evangelicals should leave those who rail against abortion clinics.

Clearly most people don't agree with everything every pastor says, or there would be no divorce, no sex outside of marriage, no pornography, no swearing, no anger, no nasty letters to the editor and no talk-show hosts thriving on hatred.

Let those without sin cast the first stone.

Yes Obama is running for president.

He isn't running for God.
