There's a renewed push to get the Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to pass
legislation allowing undocumented immigrants to receive driver's
licenses. Lawmakers have put a new bill on the table, which is
identical to the one that has already been vetoed by Schwarzenegger.
Los Angeles Sen. Gil Cedillo and other Latino lawmakers say they want
Schwarzenegger to sign the new bill. Cedillo, who authored the bill,
says he believes voters will support the issue. "We believe the
political winds have changed in our favor and people have a clearer
understanding of the issue," Cedillo said. The governor wants immigrant
licenses to have a "distinguishing mark" that shows they may not be
reliable identification documents. Critics call that discrimination. [more]
