Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean will meet with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus this morning as part of the former governor's broader effort to reach out to various segments of the party, sources said Tuesday. Dean, who took over the party committee in February, will sit down with the lawmakers at the DNC headquarters. He has also sought appointments with other Congressional interest groups including the Congressional Black Caucus, Progressive Caucus, Blue Dog Coalition, Women's Caucus, anti-abortion rights Democrats and the New Democrat Coalition. A DNC aide said Dean understands the Democratic Party is "a big tent." "He's going to meet with everybody," the aide said. Sources within the Hispanic Caucus suggested Members will talk to Dean about how important their constituency is to Democratic victories. Latino voters, they said, must be a focus in coming elections and cannot be taken for granted. "In an effort not to sound like a broken record, Members are likely to again make it clear to a party chairman how important the Hispanic community is to the Democratic Party and our effort to regain the majority," said an aide to a Hispanic Member.
