Rep. John Conyers, Jr. (D-Mich.)
will call on the Federal Bureau of Investigation tomorrow to
investigate allegations of electoral tampering in Clermont County,
Ohio, which RAW STORY revealed Wednesday. According to aides, Rep.
Conyers has received a letter from the Justice Department in response
to an earlier letter the congressman issued. The Department said they
had found nothing significant to support claims that Triad Election
Systems tampered with electronic voting machines in Hocking County,
Ohio. In response, Conyers will issue a new letter Friday which thanks
the Department for investigating earlier charges, and asks them to
expand their inquiry to include an examination of charges that stickers
were placed on ballots in Ohio. Conyers will also ask Justice to probe
additional allegations, some of which have already been made public and
others which RAW STORYhopes to detail soon. Congressman Conyers has
been at the vanguard of investigations into voting irregularities in
Ohio. J. Kenneth Blackwell, Ohio's Republican Secretary of State, has
scoffed at Conyers investigation and refused to answer any questions on
the matter, blasting Conyers motivations for the investigation as
partisan. [more]
