Visual artist Colin Quashie knew the O.J. Simpson verdict was an incredible moment in history. "I was in the kitchen, I was waiting," he said. "The verdict was read, it said he was not guilty and you saw the pictures of O.J. breathing that sigh of relief. Two seconds later my phone rang." What he later realized was the impact the trial had on race relations across the nation. The backlash from the trial sparked an idea – a coloring book. "There was this false sense of harmony that was going on in the country and the O.J. Simpson trial – when the verdict was read – it immediately shattered that." The McColl Center for Visual Arts picked up Quashie's book project and plan to discuss the book and open up a dialogue to a problem that has continued to grow throughout history. [more]
