TheCanadian arm of Wal-Marthas
decided to "close a Canadian store whose workers are on the verge of
becoming the first ever to win a union contract" from the retail
megalomaniac. Though Wal-Mart claims that the union officials were
making unreasonable and unprofitable demands, the store's shutdown is
suspect particularly since the retail giant is "world renowned for itsanti-union strategiesand
its continuous assault on the rights, wages and livelihoods of
workers." With another Canadian Wal-Mart store that recently earned
union certification, Wal-Mart has already vowed to look into "all options to block the certificationincluding
legal action against the Quebec Labor Relations Commission." This must
be what Wal-Mart means by taking care of its workers. [more]
