A female
acquaintance of comedian Bill Cosby (news) has made an
allegation against him that has prompted a police investigation in
Pennsylvania, the entertainer's attorney said Thursday. Attorney
Walter Phillips said he spoke Thursday with authorities in Pennsylvania
who told him they have begun an investigation. He would not discuss the
specifics of the allegation — which he called "utterly preposterous" —
but said it amounts to, at the most, "inappropriate touching." No
charges have been brought against Cosby. Phillips said the accuser, who
lives in Canada, knows Cosby and the alleged incident in question
happened about a year ago. Cosby, 67, who has been touring the
country speaking on issues affecting the Black community. Cosby denies
the allegations. “The allegation as I understand it, is utterly
preposterous and bizarre, coming one year after it was supposed to take
place,” Cosby’s attorney Walter Phillips Jr. told the Philly.com. The
woman reported the incident to authorities in Canada, where she now
lives, according to Philly.com. The woman, who told police her memories
of that night were not too clear, said that she and Cosby went to
dinner in Philadelphia in January 2004. She then alleges that Cosby
returned with her to her room where she complained of stress, and he
gave her pills. The woman said she remembers being touched on her
breast and genitals and woke up at 4 a.m. to find her clothes unkempt
and Cosby gone.. Cosby
postponed a town hall meeting in Cleveland on Thursday and has
postponed three upcoming shows in Florida, his publicist David Brokaw
said. Brokaw would not say whether the postponements have anything to
do with the recent allegation. [more] and [more]
