William Mark Henderson Shot at least 17 Times - he was Unarmed
A Ouachita Parish grand jury has decided NOT to indict any of the
Monroe police officers present at the shooting death of a man in August.
More than a dozen witnesses testified before the grand jury
investigating the death of William Mark Henderson. He was shot multiple
times by as many as five officers during an August 22nd confrontation
with officers in an alley. The grand jury returned NO indictments in
the shooting today Police Chief Ron Schleuter has said Henderson
refused police commands to put down a knife and a chain. The chief said
officers tried to subdue Henderson with a pepper-ball gun and a shotgun
loaded with beanbags before Henderson lunged at an officer with the
knife and chain. Last month, Monica Bruce, the ex-wife and mother of
five of Henderson's children, filed a civil suit, claiming police
"willfully and maliciously shot and killed" Henderson. The lawsuit
claims Henderson was unarmed and walking away from police officers in a
nonthreatening manner when he was shot at least 17 times. [more] and [more] and [more] and [more]
