A civil rights group has sued a Southern California school district over its treatment of pregnant teenagers. The American Civil Liberties Union filed the suit against the Antelope Valley Union High School District and Los Angeles County Office of Education on behalf of two teens. The suit claims the district forces pregnant teens and teen parents into alternative programs that offer little real instruction. The suit claims the teenagers are refused support services, such as child care and parenting skills classes, unless they agree to leave their regular schools to attend alternative education centers. The suit alleges the students work independently at the centers with little or no instruction. The suit seeks a court injunction to end the alleged discrimination. [more ]
