Four More Months!
On a sweltering August Sunday, the huge throng of
protesters marched past Madison Square Garden, the site of the
Republican National Convention opening today, and denounced President
Bush as a misfit who had plunged America into war and runaway debt,
undermined civil and constitutional rights, lied to the people,
despoiled the environment and used the presidency to benefit
corporations and millionaires.Fingers jabbed angrily and chants of "No
more Bush" grew more passionate as some of the thousands of people
protesting the Republican National Convention on Sunday marched by the
convention site at Madison Square Garden.Police gave no official crowd
estimate. One official put it at 120,000. Organizers claimed a turnout
of as many as 500,000. In either case, experts said it was the largest
protest ever at a U.S. political convention, taking nearly five hours
to shout its way past the Garden. In all, about 200 arrests were
reported, but no major outbursts of violence. [more ] and [more ] and [more ]
