Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir has accused the international community of trying to take Sudan's natural resources.
He has reacted angrily to foreign interest in the troubled region of
Darfur. The Sudanese President has accused Western countries of using
humanitarian operations as a cover to plunder Darfur's gold and oil. Mr
Bashir has lashed out at the international community, amid allegations
of further violence in Darfur. United Nations agencies say attacks by
government forces and militias are continuing. The UN refugee agency
says the Government is putting pressure on civilians to return to
villages that are still not safe. International human rights group,
Human Rights Watch, says Sudanese Government claims that it is taking
action against the militias are not credible. [more]
