Omaha Black Men DNA Dragnet: DNA Testing Challenged

The controversy over the search for a serial rapist isn't going away.
Several African American men want to know why they were targeted in the
investigation and asked for DNA samples. The answers lie in legal
papers sealed by a judge. Police say they are looking for an African
American male in his late 20s to early 30s. He's between 5' 4" and 5'
7" tall and has a stocky or flabby build. Acting on information from
their investigation, police got the names of Omaha Public Power
District workers and tested several of them, along with several other
men. The specifics of why those men were tested haven't been
revealed. Philip Moore was one of the men approached by detectives for
DNA samples. Moore says he was told, "I want your DNA. And I said, what
for? And he said, never mind what this is all about. I just want
your DNA." He says his questions went unanswered. Moore says, "He said
you really don't have nothing to worry about because you really don't
fit the description of the person we are looking for. I said then why
are you even doing this?" [more ]
