Two weeks after anti-RNC demonstrators filed two
suits against New York City for allegedly violating their civil rights,
the city has agreed to one group's demands: the fingerprints of those
arrested will be destroyed. On October 7, the ACLU filed the lawsuits
on behalf of two groups of people arrested during the RNC protests. The
suit alleges that the New York City Police Department indiscriminately
arrested protesters, observers and bystanders who were "peacefully and

that police held detainees "in a filthy bus depot," unlawfully took the
fingerprints of people arrested for minor offenses, and held arrestees
for "unjustified and unexplained" lengths of time. [more ]
