Another setback for the Martin Luther King/Drew Medical
Center in South Los Angeles. The hospital is being investigated for
mismanagement and negligence that allegedly caused the deaths of five
people. Recently, county supervisors proposed to shut down the
hospital's trauma center to save the rest of the hospital. And now,
King/Drew's accreditation could be revoked after a national
accreditation group voted to withdraw its support. The Joint Commission
on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations says the hospital failed
to correct severe lapses in patient care. Losing approval could result
in the potential loss of doctor training programs and nearly 15 (m)
million dollars in private insurance contracts. [more ]
