Six counselors at the N.A. Chaderjian Youth Correctional Facility in Stockton have been fired over an incident in which two inmates were beaten by staff members.  The altercation occurred on January 20 after the two inmates struck counselors at the facility. A videotape of the incident shows one CYA staff member repeatedly punching one of the teenage inmates. Another staff member appears to direct kicks at the facial area of the other inmate, despite the individual having been handcuffed. An internal affairs investigation by the California Youth Authority determined that two of the counselors used excessive force in subduing the inmates. The other four counselors were fired for falsifying reports about the incident. [more ]
