Prop. 200 creates intolerance, fear

Polls indicate the majority of Arizonans are in favor of
Proposition 200 (inappropriately named Protect Arizona Now). Arizonans
who are savvy about how our system works, however, are overwhelmingly
against it. It will not protect Arizona but merely create more
bureaucracy to deal with a problem that does not exist. County
recorders say undocumented people do notvote. It will not stop illegal
immigration. State law already requires employees to submit a written
report of suspected fraud. Federal mandates cannot be changed by
this proposition. If Arizona ignores federal mandates, federal money is
withheld. The estimated cost of retraining state workers and the
unnecessary implementation is estimated at $27 million the first year
and $20 million thereafter. Common citizens who understand the
proposition stand with our entire congressional delegation, governor,
religious congregations and churches, mayors, chambers of commerce,
hospitals, educators, legislators and government workers who are
against it. Proposition 200's aim is to divide, create hate,
intolerance and fear. It must not pass. [more ]
