U.S. Gives Sudan 30 Days to Arrest, Prosecute Militia

The U.S. proposed giving Sudan's
government 30 days to arrest and prosecute leaders of the Janjaweed
militia that has attacked people in Darfur or face the threat of United
Nations sanctions. The demand for action and threat of sanctions are
included in a draft resolution given today to UN Security Council
members. The text, a revision of a measure first distributed last
month, also imposes an arms embargo on the Janjaweed designed to
prevent its resupply by Sudan's government. [
