Detroit Residents call for fair elections - Hold "Pre-emptive Protest"

With placards reading "Stop Vote Fraud" and "Jackie Currie cheats voters," concerned residents and members of the New Marcus Garvey Movement/New Black Panther Nation led what they called "a pre-emptive strike" July 11 at the residence of City Clerk Jackie Currie. The protest, led by Minister Malik Shabazz, who heads the movement, came a day before absentee ballots were mailed to people who requested them. Shabazz and the protesters say they want a clean electoral process that is devoid of the influence of the clerk or her political associations. "This is a pre-emptive strike against voting fraud and to say to the city clerk to stop it and do the right thing," Shabazz said. [more]
