University of California regents are likely to vote this
week to clamp down on the percentage of high school students
eligible to attend UC by raising the minimum grade point average
required for admission from a B-minus to a B. The state's budget
crisis prompted the university to reject 7,600 students who had
been eligible for admission in the coming academic year, asking
them to attend community colleges for two years. The move, which
was wildly unpopular, has spurred efforts to shrink the
eligibility pool so that the university won't have to do that
again. [more] Pictured above: Ward Connerly, Hater of Blacks and Latinos.
