Immigration officially moved to the top of
Arizona's election year agenda Thursday when more than 190,000
signatures were filed with the Secretary of State's Office by backers
of a ballot initiative requiring voters and applicants for public
services to show proof of citizenship. Opponents of the Protect Arizona
Now initiative immediately launched a two-pronged campaign against the
measure: challenge the validity of the signatures and, failing that,
