Judge calls federal sentencing guidelines unconstitutional

Judge William Young, a Massachusetts US District
Court judge said that the federal sentencing guidelines were
unconstitutional because they gave prosecutors too much power while
limiting judge's discretion. The guidelines set up a grid system for
sentencing defendants to eliminate disparities in sentencing. Judge
Young claims the sentences given to five defendants were too harsh and
violated the defendants' right to due process.[more]
