Two Mass. Native American groups await federal recognition

Two central Massachusetts American Indian
groups with a total of about 1,000 members expect to learn early this
week whether they will be granted federal recognition. The status means
both bands would be eligible for assistance for educational, cultural,
health, housing and economic development programs and may eventually be
allowed to open casinos, the Telegram & Gazette of Worcester
