About 3,000 people at a Montgomery seminar heard plans by a black farmers group to amend a consent decree in a discrimination suit against the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Black Farmers and Agriculturalists Association Inc. is pressuring Congress for hearings on the suit while going through the courts to expand the number of farmers eligible for paymeUnder the consent decree, more than 30,000 black farmers were supposed to get several billion dollars from the government. So far, only about 13,000 eligible farmers have received $50,000 each. [more]
