A man
involved in a shooting incident with Louisville Police outside a
restaurant committed suicide, according to the Jefferson County
Coroner. Joshua Rucker, 29, of Shelbyville, died Tuesday morning after
being struck in the head by a bullet from his own semiautomatic weapon,
Jefferson County Coroner Ron Holmes said. At least one police officer
also fired during the incident outside a Bob Evans restaurant near
Interstate 65. It was initially unclear who shot Rucker. The
confrontation happened when officers were called to a complaint of
suspicious persons in the parking lot at the restaurant. When they
arrived, two officers found five suspects in a car and asked them to
get out of the car separately so they could be questioned, according to
Police Chief Robert White. Before the last suspect was taken out, one
of the officers heard a round being chambered into a gun and alerted
his partner and that's when gunfire erupted, according to Chief White.
Coroner Ron Holmes said that Rucker fired two rounds. The two police
officers involved in the incident will remain on administrative leave
while the case is reviewed. [more] and [more]
