The Tampa Police Department fired an officer last week for using
excessive force. The firing stems for a high-speed chase in February. A
police helicopter caught it all on video tape. The video shows police
chasing two suspects in a stolen car. After the car crashes, the driver
runs. He's tackled by two officers and a deputy who subdue him. That's
when Officer Travis Maus runs in, and kicks the suspect two
times. Seconds later he moves to where other officers have
detained the passenger, and steps on him. Durkin says a routine review
of high-speed chases led the department to suspend Maus, before firing
him last week. [more ]
