Tampa Police Department fires officer for using excessive force

The Tampa Police Department fired an officer last week for using excessive force. The firing stems for a high-speed chase in February. A police helicopter caught it all on video tape. The video shows police chasing two suspects in a stolen car. After the car crashes, the driver runs. He's tackled by two officers and a deputy who subdue him. That's when Officer Travis Maus runs in, and kicks the suspect two times.  Seconds later he moves to where other officers have detained the passenger, and steps on him. Durkin says a routine review of high-speed chases led the department to suspend Maus, before firing him last week. [more ]
