Three police officers who returned fire when a suspected car thief shot at them during a chase have been cleared by a Multnomah County grand jury. William T. Grigsby, 24, was killed Dec. 2 when he fired six shots at police after running from a stolen pickup he had crashed following a wild chase through neighborhood streets. Two of the three police officers were wounded.  Grigsby was running from police after crashing a stolen pickup when Steinbronn tried to stop him with his Taser. The officer fired the Taser at the man from a distance of 15 feet. Grigsby dropped to his hands and knees and then pulled out a .25-caliber pistol, spun around and fired six shots at the police.  The three officers returned fire, hitting Grigsby 13 times. Grigsby, still conscious, refused to put his hands up, move away from his gun and even reportedly flipped police off. Other officers fired three more Taser shots and 22 beanbag rounds at Grigsby before he was pronounced dead. [more] and [more]
