From [HERE] and [HERE] People in the Cincinnati suburb of North College Hill are rallying for unity around a resident who was badly beaten by a group of teenagers. Organizers planned a public meeting Monday after racial fliers were circulated in the community. The fliers called the assault a hate crime, emphasizing that the suspects are black and the victim white.

Forty-five-year-old Pat Mahaney was hospitalized four days last week from injuries after being beaten. Six youths ages 13 and 14 are charged with felonious assault and aggravated rioting. Police say the youths said they were bored and looking for something to do.

People from all over North College Hill showed up to show their support for a man attacked by a group of teens who claimed they'd been bored. "We will not let this this incident define us," said Mayor Dan Brooks, who struggled to find words to describe the 13- and 14-year-olds. "Six totally irresponsible and, as far as I'm concerned irrelevant, human beings, if you want to call them that, attacked one of our fellow citizens."

Brooks said he would ask the county prosecutor to seek the maximum penalty for the teens accused of brutally beating Pat Mahaney last week as he walked along a street. "The police department is also working with the Cincinnati Metropolitan Housing Authority coordinating the eviction of these individuals out of our community," said Police Chief Gary Foust.

The incident has drawn the attention of the white supremacist National Alliance, which plans to rally in the city, and racist fliers were distributed over the weekend. A peaceful counter-protest is planned for the group's demonstration. The victim is white and the suspects are black.
